What Are Research Reports?

Research Reports

A research report is basically a book that describes on the findings of an experiment, research study or in short scientific observations on a particular subject. The purpose of writing a research report is mainly to share your personal knowledge or experience. This can be used for a presentation at a school or college, for a student’s report or for a teacher’s report. These reports can also be written as a journal article or even for publication in a specialist peer-reviewed journal.

In addition to the two types of reports mentioned above, there are also other kinds of research reports such as a qualitative investigation, a case study and a descriptive essay. All of these have different purposes and are written according to the specific needs of the researchers. For example, a qualitative investigation is usually descriptive in nature, while case studies deal more with the details of a specific case and data analysis more with researching a certain aspect of that particular case. As for a descriptive essay, the main goal here is to describe and explain a topic in a meaningful way for readers.

In all forms of research reports, there are some basic elements that all researchers should follow in order to produce an accurate and well-written document. These include writing the brief overview, including the title, the abstract, the thesis statement and the plan, using appropriate language, including appropriate terminology, drawing the data set, data sources and drawing the graphs and maps. Furthermore, the researcher must ensure consistency of coding and consistency of presentation. Finally, he must follow the appropriate guidelines set by the regulatory bodies.
